The Black Keys are an American rock duo that was founded in Akron, Ohio, in 2001. The band is known for its characteristic sound, which combines elements of blues, garage rock and soul. The Black Keys achieved their international breakthrough in 2010 with their sixth studio album ‘Brothers’. With hits such as ‘Tighten Up’ and ‘Howlin’ for You’, the band not only gained popularity, but also received several Grammy Awards, including “Best Rock Album”. The Black Keys built on this success with the follow-up album ‘El Camino’. Songs such as ‘Lonely Boy’ and ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ secured further chart positions.
Despite their commercial success, the Black Keys remain true to their roots. The albums are often less elaborately produced and do without many studio effects in favour of a ‘live’ sound. Instead, The Black Keys rely on strong guitar riffs, distinctive drum beats and Auerbach's characteristic voice.
